One of the things I remember about Micah is how much of a goofball he liked to be, poking Anika when she was listening to music, or hovering as we made a meal asking silly questions just for the sake of keeping the conversation going. He loved to make people laugh.

I remember once, in fifth grade. He taught me how to do the “shuffle” and it was such a silly thing to learn but somehow he always made it look cool. He could also do it sideways.
And then this year when we went ballroom dancing together, he was leading and he kept stepping on my feet. And it was hilarious and he kept apologizing, even though I was the one who was messing up.

Thank you for sharing, Janey and Arianna. I remember that night at the dance! Sweet memory to have of him dancing so intensely.

My spouse Roger and I met Micah at the new home when he was about 13. We are older adults and I anticipated receiving the required, polite, perfunctory greeting immediately followed by Micah’s disappearance into an iPhone or other computer. After all, what teen wants to hang out with the old strangers occupying his dining room? Instead, Micah, who initially hung around the edges popped in during some of our most outrageous stories. In not too long a time he joined us, his mom’s arms around him; posing questions about the conversation to her; laughing at her responses; contributing his own goofiness with ours. Do I recall a hug for me when it was time for us to leave? Micah-space; sweetness.

Thank you, Gwen. I was also delighted to see his genuine interest and curiosity about your life. I was so looking forward to him reconnecting with you and Roger at the retreat this summer. He enjoyed that after dinner conversation so much.
